Yellow Fever Vaccination in Beerwah

Planning travel to parts of Africa or South America? Beerwah Family Clinic is an approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, so our doctors can give you the yellow fever vaccine and issue your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, without travelling to Brisbane. Patients from across the Sunshine Coast and hinterland are welcome.

What is yellow fever?

Yellow fever is a serious viral illness spread by infected mosquitoes in parts of Africa and Central and South America. It can cause fever, jaundice, bleeding and, in severe cases, death. Vaccination is the best protection.

Do I need the yellow fever vaccine?

  • Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination before they let you in
  • Australia requires a valid certificate if you are aged 1 or over and have stayed overnight or longer in a yellow fever risk country in the 6 days before arriving in Australia
  • It is recommended for travel to areas where yellow fever occurs

Check the requirements for your destination on Smartraveller and discuss your itinerary with your doctor.

When to book

Book your appointment at least 10 days before you travel, as your certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. Ideally see us 6 to 8 weeks before departure so we can also review any other travel vaccines and medicines you may need. One dose provides lifelong protection for most people.

Who should not have the vaccine?

The yellow fever vaccine is a live vaccine and is not suitable for everyone. Your doctor will check whether it is safe for you, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a weakened immune system or take certain medicines, have a severe egg allergy, are aged 60 or over, or for babies under 9 months. If you cannot be vaccinated, we can provide a medical exemption letter where appropriate.

Fees

Yellow fever vaccination is not covered by Medicare. A fee applies for the consultation and the vaccine. Please call us on 07 5494 0066 for current fees.
